We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Chewonki Campground in Wiscasset. It is such a beautiful setting of more than 50 acres overlooking the tide marsh, and with only 47 sites it's like your own private property. And with the added bonus of only having someone near us 2 nights out of 7, it really was our private oasis.
You can of course see our flag proudly flying in this pic, but we had an intense bit of weather come through, in fact our weather station clocked a gust of 53 mph! It took down and broke our flag pole. We ordered a new one and will get it in time for the 4th.
No flag here |
So, of course, on to the food. In all these years of coming to Maine we had never gone to Moody's Diner, an absolute icon, in business over 80 years, so we killed two birds with one stone, we got to visit and have lunch, two times actually, and were able to get away from the mostly fried food a bit, yeah even with the wonderful seafood, we need a little less sometimes:-)
Jan found the haddock chowder was wonderful |
And out of character I found their hot turkey, with their own turkey, sandwich awesome |
Then we had to get back to the seafood, on a gorgeous day we headed over to New Harbor to eat at Shaw's. Thank you Bob for telling us about it, not sure we would have found it otherwise, it is definitely out of the way:-) It's a real working harbor which you can view when you eat outside.
Great lobster stew, fried haddock, onion rings, and an order of steamers! |
We wanted to go back to another little hole in the wall that we visited last year, Fishermen's Net in Brunswick, and unfortunately it was a mixed bag, Jan's Banh Mi was superb, but my fried combo plate not so much. Even so we got to talking, in all the restaurants we have visited it is actually very rare we are disappointed, yeah some are better than others, but for the most part they do a great job, and maybe this was just a one time deal.
All in all we did a lot of walking and took long rides around the area trying to find some roads we hadn't yet been on, and chilled at our beautiful spot. Now we are outside of Bangor, in Hermon, looking forward to some adventures here including a visit with friends' Doug and Nancy.
