A very lucky catch!

As I have mentioned many times in the past, Murphy's Law and motorhomes are typically the rule.  Sure enough if it can go wrong, it will go wrong.  And it is just that, that drives many people away from the RVing life.  And after full-timing for over 12 years and more than 20 years in motorhomes, I will admit that when a bunch of problems come in rapid succession, it is easy to get overwhelmed and wonder why, why, why?

So as I said we are nearing our departure from Florida and making ready to get on the road, doing little things here and there with no big projects hanging over us.  Our son was here for a few weeks, and while I was out dumping the tanks sitting near the plumbing bay, Jason was in the shower.  As I was contemplating life in general, it does take about 10-15 minutes to dump the tanks thoroughly, I think I hear a drip, drip, drip.  I peer around to try and find it and sure enough water is dripping out of the wheel well, where it is not supposed to be!  I try to look up in there with a flash light but I can't see exactly where it's coming from, but I can ascertain from where the water is, it has to be coming from the shower area.

And sure enough when Jason is done, the water stops.  All I can think is it has to be a leak under the shower pan in the drain.  So the diesel mechanic, Jan crawls down and shines the flash light under the pan and announces, "Oh yes, it's wet under here, but the drain is dry."  Hmmm, must be from the supply side then, but funny it only leaks when the shower is being used.

So, behind a sliding door in our bedroom is an access panel to the shower mix valve.
Convenient access!
The way it is hooked up the water goes from the mix valve through a short section of Pex then through the wall into the shower.  Sure enough it is wet right under where the water goes through into the shower stall, hence the reason it only leaks when the shower is on.

Now I realize how incredibly lucky we are.  As you know if you've read my blog for awhile, we had a catastrophic leak under our refrigerator that went unnoticed for a long time which necessitated the almost complete replacement of our floor in the saloon area, so to say we are gun shy is an understatement.  If I hadn't been sitting there outside to see the drip, drip, drip, this could have gone on unknown until another floor rotted out!  So as I said we were so very lucky.

I removed the offending parts and found that a plastic fitting had cracked and was causing the leak, so with a bit of a challenge getting the parts locally, we got it all fixed up with no more leaks.
The arrow shows where the leak was, and this
shows it all fixed
So bullet dodged, we still have a few things to do to get ready to leave, wash the coach, put all our stuff, carpeting, grill, chairs, back in storage, and we will be ready to roll.

Had our second to last Tiki bar night with fewer and fewer people as they all filter home.
Good times and goodbyes

Not too much to report

We're definitely in the wind down phase of our time in Florida.  We have said many good byes as our friends trickle north.  Tried to fit in a few lunches and dinners.  I helped a good friend with a project on his motorhome, got a few small items done on ours.

The campground is about half empty now.  As the weather warms here, I think the perception is that it is also warm at home, so they get antsy, and most leave before they originally planned, including us.  We are leaving a couple weeks earlier than we initially thought, in fact we are leaving two weeks from tomorrow.

We have accomplished all our projects, and all we want to do before we leave is wash the motorhome one last time, kick the tires, check the oil and we will be doing what we truly love to do, and that's traveling.
