Wells, Maine

We came the whole 28 miles south to get to Wells, ME on Monday.  Looking forward to our time here.  Wells has some great memories for us.  We used to rent a house on the beach for a couple weeks for 4 or 5 summers that we lived in NH.  We used to walk miles on the beach, ride bikes, and have a great time.  Vern and Viv, and at different times, Karen's family, and Nancy's family joined us.  The house was kinda ratty, but it was right on the beach, and we had a great time!

Also in the dead of winter we would come over and get superb chowder and fish sandwiches at Billy's Chowder House, when often times we were the only people in the restaurant, the tourists long gone.  But that was a long time ago and several years ago when we came through we found that either our memory failed or Billy's food had gone downhill.  We are at the Wells Beach Resort about 2 miles from the beach right now.  It's a nice campground and it is just how we like it, almost empty!

Bruce and Cathie live a few miles away and we had a nice visit and lunch with them yesterday at the Maine Diner.  The seafood chowder was awesome, every bit as good if not better than the chowder we remembered at Billy's.  We will definitely have to get more of that.  It's been in business for many years and has a lot of notoriety, even Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives has featured it.

We have gotten up to see the sunrise two mornings so far with not so much luck, the weather isn't cooperating.  The first morning we were lucky to see the edge of the parking lot let alone the sun in dense fog.  This morning we did a little better, we caught a glimpse of the sun about a half hour after sunrise as it pierced a few clouds on its way up.  Then we decided to do our walk on the beach, and it was great even with the pouring rain, thunder, and luckily no lightning, at least that we could see, about 3/4's of a mile from the car :-)
A little ominous

Beautiful, even with the rain!
