Adirondacks

After we left Niagara Falls, we headed northeast to the town of Clayton, NY in the Thousand Island region.  We went back to a campground Jan and I had been to once back in 2004, and we had vague memories of not being completely pleased, but it is a small market in campgrounds in the area and it is highly rated, so we went back.  The memories came back, it is tight, only 30 amp, and they nickle dime you, and the owners are overbearing and not very friendly.  Makes you want to go immediately, doesn't it?  On the good side, once in the site, and finally left alone, it overlooks the river, it is quiet, and almost dark at night.

Karen and Jo took a boat ride to visit the Singer Castle while Jan and I took what we thought was a 3.4 mile hike on Wellesley Island state park.  We really enjoyed it, it afforded many vistas across the 1000 islands, but did turn out to be over 4.5 miles long.
A little overcast

Still, nice views

A youth canoe tour

Pretty idyllic

We then went into Alexandria Bay for an underwhelming lunch.  We planned to take the Two Nation boat tour the next day, a tour we had taken in 2004 that was very enjoyable, but we got weathered out, most of the day was rainy and foggy.  So we went with Karen and Jo to Watertown, had a fantastic lunch at an Irish Pub, then they went antiquing and we went grocery shopping.

The day turned out beautiful, so we sat out overlooking the water and enjoyed our last evening there before leaving for Indian Lake in the Adirondacks.  Indian Lake is where Jan and Karen spent a lot of time with their parents.  They had several cabins and houses in the area growing up.  It's also where Jan and I lived for a short time while houseless between selling our home in PA, and building our home in NH when I got hired by Delta.  It is also where Karen lived for a time while she was working with TWA.  So we all are anxious to see what we remember and how much things have changed.  Also the Adirondacks are absolutely beautiful, and the weather is spectacular, blue skies, cool temps, and no humidity.  We are in a pretty campground with unfortunately unlevel sites and lots of trees, so we both spent a lot of time yesterday moving back and forth and blocking up tires to try to get level and get the satellite dishes.  All worth it, as it is quiet, private, pristine, and very friendly.
Our campsites

The only down side is there is NO cell phone service in the area.  I mean none!  No Verizon or AT&T.  I am amazed that for a lot of our trip so far the cell service is so spotty.  So if anyone needs to get a hold of us, please use email, we will get that.
