After a Nice Visit, Back On The Road Again

Not only did we have a great visit with our son Jason and his fiancé, Joanne, we ate and ate delicious food.  From spatchcock chicken, to sensational ribs, to excellent prime rib, and even an awesome stir fry.  Jason wowed us.  Add in lunches to encompass sushi, beef on weck, and bbq, we ate like kings!    But mostly it was a nice visit, it had been quite awhile since we had seen them.

Jason's awesome ribs!

Joanne's dad, Joe came over to help eat ribs

Jason and Joanne were able to fit us in as they both were still working from home:-)

I had the honor of carving the incredible prime rib!

So we wrapped up our time in Buffalo visiting after dinner, said goodbye and started to make our way south.

So we moved south about 100 miles to Wellsville, NY at Trout Run Camp Resort.  It was an unusual huge place, all grass sites that were arranged in a peculiar way, hard to figure out where your site actually was and how it was aligned.  We arrived on a Wednesday and it was almost like we had the whole park to ourselves.  But when Friday came, the park was completely full!  And what a zoo, kids and families and groups and activity everywhere, time to go for us:-)

Cool enough for our fire pit, at last:-)

We took a ride to Watkins Glen for lunch.  It was a very pretty drive, and a good lunch at a marina right on Seneca Lake.
Down the hill into Watkins Glen

I had read about Letchworth State Park and the waterfalls there, we aren't big waterfall people and decided on our drive over we'd take a look if we didn't have to pay to get into the park.  Cheap, right?  Anyway we found another road going into the park and pulled in to an overlook.  We had no idea the Genesee River was in such a huge gorge and the waterfalls so far below us, almost gave me vertigo, it doesn't take much you know.
Hard to tell, but those falls are a long way down

Quite the perspective from the truck

We walked down a path alongside the gorge for a bit, Jan farther than me, it was too uncomfortable for me.  Then we headed back and in many places you could see where the color was just starting to peek out.  It has been at least 10 years since these easterners have seen an eastern fall with all the colors.  It's a nice change.
You can see the color developing

So we were just going to chill the next morning before we were leaving to move to Ives Run, a Corps of Engineer campground in Tioga, PA, but we had an issue come up.  We noticed that Jan's knife which she carries in her rear pocket was missing!  Oh my, she had just gotten this knife this year in Durango and was heartsick she might have lost it.  Where could it be?  She looked through the truck, we tried to retrace when she knew she had it and when it could have gone missing.  Sure enough, she had taken a quick potty break in the woods near the gorge and figured that is where it might have fallen out.  You know it happens to everyone when you drive for a long time out in the country.  So we decided it just had to be there, and since it was an expensive, very nice knife it would be worth driving back the 45 miles to see if we could find it.  It was a pretty drive once again and since we went a different way, it was new scenery, and best of all we found it in no time, success!  We needed to kill the morning anyway since check in time at the COE was 4pm!!  Never have we seen a check in time so late, and the worst of it was we only had 60 miles to go.  We pushed the limit a bit and arrived at 3pm, and were able to get right in our site.  It is an absolutely beautiful park, sites well spaced out, all paved, mostly full hook up 50 amp sites and man is it packed, and we can see why.  But we got settled in a nice site and it was warm enough to have cocktails outside before the rains came.

We'll be in FL the beginning of Dec. We actually have a lot to do before then, not all of it fleshed out yet, but we are confident our time will be full. Look forward to seeing you guys.
