A Quick Uneventful Update

Yup, we're still alive, but pretty hunkered in, spring is very reluctant this year.  Lots of rain, wind, and cold temps.  And, of course, we are having each HH like clockwork with Karen and Tom, but we have been inside for every one.  And right now we have 45 degrees and a gale warning for the next 2 days with possible winds in excess of 40 mph!

Since almost all of our outside activities are non existent, except for walking whenever the temp goes above 50, we've been doing a lot of lunches out.  And just so you know we sometimes actually eat other than seafood and try new things.  In fact I had a new item for me, Bibimbap.

The view from our site is nice and hard to tell it is only 50:-)

The local lobster guy hung out his sign, Open, so we ran over for our first fix.

And before you think, my God that's a lot of lobster for 2, we tried something different, the 4 on the bottom were sold as culls, usually meaning 1 or no claws, instead, and it's hard to tell in the pics, they are tiny, amazing they are even legal.  After we looked them over, we both decided we needed to go pick up 2 more, a little bigger to make a whole dinner.  Glad we did, and yes they all were delicious!

We ran up to Freeport with Karen and Tom to eat at Harraseeket Lunch and hit LL Bean, got my first steamed clams fix:-)

Very few boats in the water this early in the season

Then on Wednesday, off to Billy's for buck a shuck day, as you can see not all of us participated:-)

So that's all for now, hoping for spring soon.

Maine!

We had a nice unexpected visit with friends, John and Diane the day before we left.  Finished up the last of a few things to do before moving and off we went.  We spent the first night at Fort Chiswell, VA in a convenient park right off the interstate.  We made it the first day without rain, but that was it, so our lovely clean motorhome got filthy again.  Our next overnight is usually at a park in Pine Grove, PA, but since it fell on a Saturday, they required a 2 night minimum so we picked another park, new for us farther up 81, Lakewood Park in Barnesville, PA.  It was pretty much a mistake.  The road in was very rough and pot holy, it was raining pretty hard.  We had reserved a pull through so we wouldn't have to unhook the truck, but access to the site was iffy with a fairly sharp u-turn to get in, but once we were in, the site was large and nice.  With a short break in the rain we went out to check out our exit.  We always, if it isn't completely clear, walk our exit to be sure there will be no surprises in the morning.  We were given no instruction, so we grabbed the map and immediately noticed that the normal exit route showed the road closed at several points, as well it should as we walked, it looked under construction.  There was another road that was near our site but was angled the wrong way.  But that was the only exit, so we had to unhook the truck, and then back and fill a couple times to get out.  Turned out to not be a big deal, but we didn't plan on all that in the pouring rain, we won't be back there.

Then we were plagued with little nitnoy stuff along the way, the cruise control was intermittent, the wipers didn't always work on the first push of the button, then the wiper, of course on the driver's side stopped, it had become loose on its mount and just lay there while the other kept going.  A quick fix to get it reattached and on its spline and we worked our way to our last overnight in Brattleboro, VT at the KOA we like very much.  All the while still raining.

Then off on our last day, still raining, had to stop again to tighten the wiper, obviously the lock nut is shot.  We needed to get fuel to be sure to be full while we sit in Maine for 7 weeks running the heat for the most part.  We got talking about the wonderful food (seafood) we would be enjoying in Maine, and we figured since we were stopping in Greenland, NH for fuel right beside a quiet mall in Portsmouth, and the fact there is a very good place for fried whole belly clams right across the river in Kittery, ME, Bob's Clam Hut, why not?  So we left the coach at the mall and jumped in the truck to get our first fix:-)

Getting unhooked at the mall

Yummy clams and awesome rings!

Then back on the road for our final 50 miles, when the calcitrant wiper flies around to the left between the mirror and the windshield!

So on the side of the Maine Turnpike in the rain we fought with it to get it back in position, and decided for the last 25 miles we could just do without the wipers.

We got settled into our site at Bayley's Camping Resort in Scarborough as much as we could between raindrops, and the next day, still on the quest for seafood tried a new place, Sea Salt,  not far away and had very good haddock and scallops.

And the next day was Wednesday, Buck a Shuck day at Billy's Chowder House in Wells which I have shared many times, off we went to really inaugurate our time in Maine!

A few oysters to start

Lobster stews and onion rings

Must be 3 lobsters worth of meat in this luscious bowl of stew

We took a nice ride around and back and shortly after Jan's sister, Karen and Tom rolled in with their new coach to spend the next 7 weeks here with us, gonna be lots and lots of meals, Happy Hours, and visiting going on!

Quick Update, On The Move Tomorrow!

Tomorrow morning bright and early we make our way to Maine!  3 overnights, into Maine on Monday.

We spent way too much time on trying to cover the triple hole over the new microwave, back and forth with this and that and fairly came up with a solution we can live with.

Looks pretty good we think

I got some more dental work done, the final crown for my implant, and of course, with my dental luck while they were making the mold for the new crown, found a chip out of another tooth that needed repair.  Got that done, and then waited until the end of the month for the final installation.  And although we wish our long time dentist, Dr Mulkey the very best in his retirement, we are sad to lose our wonderful dentist and friend of over 25 years.

We've been running errands and taking care of little things that needed to get done before moving up north.  We've had several very nice visits with friends.

And we've visited our property several times for a picnic or a coffee.  Two days ago we stopped in and found several small branches had been taken off our tree and there was a new No Trespassing sign on our tree?!?!?!  We decided at that point especially since the lot next to us has already sold and the folks that bought it are building immediately, it might be a good idea to put in more stakes delineating our boundary in case the string that marks it now goes away.

We bought a bunch of stakes and bright ribbon and went to put them in, while we were working our neighbor, the one that used to own our lot, and a real nice guy saw us and came over.  He explained that it was he that put up the signs because on Easter Sunday there were people walking around our lot and around his pond.  He confronted them to find out what they were doing, said they saw the pond and thought it'd be a nice place to sit around for awhile.  He informed them it was private property and no it was not all right.  Nice to have a neighbor keeping an eye on our lot:-)

What doesn't show in the pictures is that it is hot, hot, hot and humid, actually the first this spring, and not a cloud in the sky, and I was melting.  We got it done, sat there, relaxed, had coffee, and chilled for awhile, and said goodbye for the next 7 months.  Yeah, we have new plans again:-)  More to follow.
