Durango Two Weeks Flew By

Seems like we just got here, but our two weeks are almost over, Karen and Tom took off today for Oregon and we take off tomorrow for Montrose.  We do plan to meet back up in about two weeks.  We had a great time here although we really didn't do too much, it was nice to relax and visit with Karen and Tom, and an unexpected pleasant visit with our good friend Rachel who flew in for a week.

We hadn't been here before in the spring, always visited in the fall, so it was nice to see all the green and the snow capped mountains, flowers blooming and everything coming to life.  One of the first things we did was run up to Molas Pass, and planned to hike around Andrews Lake, but there was too much snow and mud.

Engineer Mountain letting itself be known

We also spent time moving sites, in fact three times!  When we booked our reservation, we couldn't get one site the entire time.
The site we spent 9 of our 14 days in

It's so nice to see the country essentially back to normal, people on the street, events, indoor dining, restaurants and shops open, but if you look hard, there are several shuttered businesses that didn't make it through the pandemic, and everywhere you look are help wanted signs.  But there isn't anyone willing to work until their extra benefits run out.  Hardly any masks on the street, like I say, almost normal again.

The three girls decided to take a girls only hike up to Spud Lake on a beautiful morning.

We did manage to solve most of the world's problems each evening when we met for happy hour.  That's probably why you feel so much relief over the last two weeks:-)

But soon we had to say goodbye to Rachel, you know, the only one of the group still working.

We managed to get the motorhomes washed while we were here, it's one of few places that let you wash, albeit with a fee.  We each also were able to get a few odds and ends done on the rigs.

Jan and I took off one day for a picnic behind Purgatory near Hermosa Creek.
Spring was springing

Wild Irises

We drove up Hermosa Creek a ways, and found out that minor ford was now quite full of water.
But the mighty Ram prevailed

We went up to a beautiful overlook we had found years ago.

Another awesome shot on the way back

Even a beautiful view right from our site

And we welcomed Karen and Tom's newest addition to the family, Sophia.
Sorry Tom, caught you badly, but got a good one of Sophia

And just in case you thought I could get through an entire post without food, you would be wrong:-)   There is a great pizza place here called Fired Up.

Delish!

And we even got a couple visits and take out at another favorite place, Rice Monkeys.

Our takeout along the river

We went to several other places, amazing how we took eating out and shopping for granted pre pandemic, and missed it so much for a year.

Karen and Tom will have fun in Ore., still buttoned up and downtown Portland is great to visit at night, "Where every night is like the Fourth of July!"

Ha, yeah, probably going that way for all the fun and games, but alas they won't be going to beautiful Portland, instead near Eugene to get some work done.

Gov Brownstain still has several counties in lockdown mode for failing to hit an arbitrary vaccination target even though the cases are below the old thresholds.

Several governors are very reluctant to give up their dictator roles.
