We drove through rainy weather into Picabo,ID and ended up with our first 3 days foggy, rainy, and cool. But it was nice to just hangout, make soup, watch a movie and take a drive. |
Our rainy view from our site in Picabo
|
The rain was of course in the form of snow way up on the mountains which made for great scenery. |

We stopped at a roadside info spot where an earthquake caused fault occurred, and at least in our minds it was kind of anticlimactic, but the location made for an incredible view back across the valley.
Our route took us north out of Arco towards Challis, then over to Stanley, then back down through Sun Valley and Hailey, back to Picabo, 285 miles worth! Fantastic. The weather never completely cooperated, rain came and went all day, but the scenery with fog and snow was great.
We found a nice spot along the Salmon River for our lunch, and luckily that time the weather cooperated, no rain!

Lots of snow on them thar hills |
The rain finally moved away so we headed out to fish beautiful Silver Creek. Jan caught a little guy, but I wasn't so lucky, I mean skillful.

The next day we went up north of Ketchum and Sun Valley to try our hand on the Big Wood River. That was better. I got into a sizable fish right off the bat and actually had to fight it for more than 5 minutes to get it to the net.
|
Believe it or not, that fish is about 17"!
|
But once again, Jan was the one that won the day, she caught 5 nice fish, and I never got another in my net.

We spent a quiet 4th of July, Jan reading and I tied some flies, mostly ones we lost.
