We survived the Labor Day weekend!

Now don't take that statement too literally, nothing against the holiday weekends, but this weekend in particular is significant for full-time RVers.  It is essentially the end of family camping as the kids go back to school, and it spells relief for us full-timers getting campsites, especially without plans or reservations. Any holiday weekend brings a challenge for us, the campgrounds are full and spilling over, as they should be, so it makes it difficult for us to find one, and know where we will be so far ahead.  We picked a very nice campground here between Montrose and Ridgway, CO, the Centennial RV Park, and it worked out spectacularly.  It is not a park that caters to kids, no playground, no club house, no pool, so families go right down the road to the state parks in Ridgway, Ouray, etc.  So we had a nice, mostly quiet holiday and I hope you had a good one too.

One of the things we wanted to do while in Montrose was to go have pizza again, come on now I haven't mentioned food in quite awhile, at Pahgre's, which had been fantastic before, but prowling around on TripAdvisor and Yelp got us thinking we'd try Colorado Boy instead.  Now Pahgre's has always had some great pizza, but let me tell you Colorado Boy's was awesome and steps above, it was superb, go there if you get a chance!

Enough for the food, we did a little sightseeing and even found a couple roads in this area that we hadn't been on before:)

We also wanted to try and find a place to go fishing and went back into the wilderness towards Silver Jack Reservoir around the area where several John Wayne movies were shot to see if the streams in and out would be big enough to fish.  We had a good time and a nice picnic but no fishing:(

We drove around some more working our way back and noticed that fall is making its move here in the San Juans.

We managed an incredible view of Ridgway and the valley that winds south to Ouray on a road we hadn't traveled before.

We had one night of thunderstorms rolling through.  We've always loved the fact that out here in the west you can see them for miles.

We even had the time and opportunity to wash the motorhome and the truck, so that will be one more thing we don't have to do in our upcoming 5 weeks in Durango.  We move down there Friday, and look forward to our son Jason's visit.  He'll be in Friday night and is going to spend 8 days with us!  It'll be great to share all our favorite haunts and hikes and off roads with him.
